Participants of MyChallenge 2011

  • “My kids (aged two and four) do stretches with me and I feel great for giving them a positive role model. Now I just have to keep up with them!”
  • Inspired by the first MyChallenge in 2010 I stepped up my exercise regime and lost 23kg. I went from 116kg to 93kg and a waist of 118 cm to 96cm. Joining the local gym to assist me along the way. To stay motivated I spoke to several people including Ford Health staff, gym staff, Dietitians, Psychologist, work mates and friends. I set smaller achievable goals along the way to help me reach my final goal of being less than 100 kg. I had tried diets before but had put the weight back on so this time I decided to make a life style change, I didn’t go cold turkey with unhealthy foods - eliminate the small things each month which are unhealthy and gradually eat better. I mixed up my exercise each 6 to 8 weeks with the help of the staff at Ready 24hr Fitness Yeppoon giving me a different program to follow. It is important to know this was not easy (mentally and physically) and there were times when I wanted to give up and go back to my old ways, that is why it is essential to surround yourself with positive people to encourage and inspire your along the way. Now that I am healthier I can enjoy playing with my 4 and 2 yr old kids without running out of breath. Special thanks go to staff at Ford Health.
  • "I was always one of those people who never had time to exercise or walk at lunch – with an excuse. However, with the exercise challenge it has motivated me to get moving with my team at lunch and also have a very competitive challenge with the other teams in our department. In June, I had surgery on both of my feet, so needless to say I was very disappointed because I had to stop walking. Well that didn’t last too long because I was determined to continue in any which way that I could. Instead of doing 10,000 steps I started doing weight exercises and modified sit ups so that I could still continue to motivate my team and add some steps. I am only returning to work mid-August, but once I’m able to get back to the regular exercising and walking, I will contintue to join my colleagues in our lunchtime ritual of going out and be active. So thank you for motivating and challenging us to a healthier lifestyle!"
